Schedule: Year-round, full-time

Executive Director Overview

The Executive Director manages the daily operations of USHPA and oversees the staff. They work with the board of directors to set and execute organizational strategy. They liaise with governmental bodies and external suppliers on matters related to securing flying rights and insuring flying related activities.

This is a player/coach role. In addition to managing the staff, you will do hands-on work such as setting budgets, overseeing company finances, preparing updates for the membership and board, and writing contracts for external partners and suppliers.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage a staff of 5-10 individual contributors.
  • Act as the organizationā€™s Financial Officer, with guidance from the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee, to establish budgets and oversee the external accounting firm.
  • Act as the primary contact to the Recreation Risk Retention Group, an insurance company of which USHPA is the majority shareholder and customer.
  • Work collaboratively with the Board and committees to set company strategy. Keep the board updated with progress, risks and roadblocks.
  • Ensure that USHPA maintains regular, high-quality and cohesive communications with the membership.
  • Work with local chapters, clubs and schools.
  • Act as the primary contact with the National Aeronautic Association, the FAI member organization for the USA, responsible for all air-sports
  • Lead and coordinate fundraising initiatives to support the organization's development efforts and mission.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorā€™s degree (Masterā€™s preferred)
  • Minimum 5 yearsā€™ experience as a CEO or COO of a company with revenue of three million dollars or greater.
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with online bookkeeping and project management software.
  • Experience managing staff including hiring, training, managing and evaluation.
  • An active participant in outdoor recreation, preferably in hang gliding, paragliding, or a closely related sport.
  • Demonstrated passion for mission-based work, such as volunteer work at a non-profit organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be available for frequent travel to meet with staff and chapters.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary between $95k and $115k based on experience, plus incentive compensation set by the Board of Directors.
